About the Association
The Bangladesh Insurance Association is the apex body of the country's private insurance companies.
The Bangladesh Insurance Association (BIA) was established on 25 April 1988, following the opening of the country's insurance market to private companies. It began with 13 founding member companies — 3 life insurers and 10 non-life insurers — and today represents the private insurance industry of Bangladesh.
The Association works to support an effective legislative and regulatory environment for insurance, to promote ethical market conduct among members, and to build public understanding of insurance and its role in financial protection.
BIA engages with the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA), government bodies and international insurance organisations on matters affecting the industry, and organises training, seminars and publications for member companies and insurance professionals.
Association activity is carried out through its Executive Committee and a set of specialist sub-committees covering technical, claims, training, reinsurance, investment, information technology and administrative matters.
